Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School

Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

In Year 5, the children have the opportunity to develop their sense of responsibility for themselves and each other. We look to the pupils to set an outstanding example for the rest of the school, by being positive role models of behaviour and learning.

We aim to provide a broad, balanced curriculum and to prepare the children for their future education. We encourage the children to reflect in greater depth, on themselves as learners and as considerate members of society. Throughout the year, the children investigate their topics through field trips, drama, guest speakers and outdoor learning. They have the opportunity to present their learning in whole school collective worship and are presented with certificates for following our RESPECT Keys to Success.

During the year, we travel back in time as History detectives and visit Hampton Court Palace to experience how the Tudors once lived. To support our Science curriculum, the children are visited by a mobile Planetarium, where they experience the wonders of the night sky. In Design and Technology, we investigate designs that use levers, gears and pulleys and in the summer we learn about healthy eating through cookery. In Geography we look at the continent of South America and explore the human and physical features of Brazil.

Above all, we aspire to provide a productive and enjoyable year for the children, enabling them to leave with a genuine sense of pride and achievement!
