Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Year 4 is an important year in the children's development.  During the year we will continue to build on previous skills and knowledge and continue to develop new and different learning.  Children will be encouraged to use the OLI Keys to Success to support them in their social, moral and academic development.

Children will explore the 'Amazing Egyptians' and 'Vicious Vikings', exploring these topics in both historical and geographical contexts, as well as linking to other subjects when suitable. One key aspect of Mathematics in Year 4 is the recall of multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12. The children will have lots of opportunity to revise their times tables in a fun and interactive way. Children will develop their reading and writing skills through exploring texts such as 'Egyptian Cinderella' and 'How to Train Your Dragon'. Children will enjoy the investigative approach to science, studying topics such as the digestive system and electricity.

Throughout the year we will encourage children to become more independent, not only in their learning but personally and socially. Also, teamwork is a valued quality which the children will use in a wide range of learning contexts, whether this is completing paired work, performing in group dramas, combining for musical sequences or taking part in sports activities.

As children progress through their school life they are encouraged and expected to become good role models for the younger children in our school.  In year 4 we will expect children to accept additional responsibilities and continue to display positive and appropriate behaviour.
