Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School

Year 2

Year 2 is all about having a go, practising and learning through our mistakes. We will be working on the qualities of resilience and perseverance to develop a 'I can't do it...yet' approach to learning where everyone can achieve success.

As the children get older and mature, we will be expecting them to become more independent in their learning and take more responsibility for organising their belongings. For example, asking a peer before putting their hand up for adult support, changing their own reading books.

Over the year, we focus on six exciting topics: Into the Woods and What can we discover? (Autumn term),  African Adventure and Ready, Steady Grow (Spring term) and London's Burning and Life is Like a Treasure Chest (Summer term). As far a possible the different subjects are taught through these themes, using a cross-curricular approach to immerse and engage the children in their learning (see curriculum maps below). We welcome children bringing in anything from home that would enrich our topic. There are a number of enrichment days across the year that cover a wide variety of subjects (e.g. African cafe, Local area walks, African drumming workshop). Details will be sent out nearer these dates.

English and Maths activities will be sent home each Friday and be expected in the following Wednesday. This home learning will consolidate what the children have been learning in class during the week.  Reading books can be brought in to be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Many thanks,

Year 2 team
