Year 1 is all about becoming independent. By the end of the year the children will be responsible for emptying their book bags, ensuring that their homework and reading records are handed in, as well as any letters. They will begin to take responsibility for their own work, ensuring it is completed to the best of their ability.
During the Autumn term, Year 1 has a transition period where the children work in an informal environment similar to Reception, and then towards the end of the term this becomes more formal and children carry out their learning at their tables.
